Mamma Mia!

Mamma Mia!, with music and lyrics by Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, book by Catherine Johnson, and direction by Phyllida Lloyd, features the music of ABBA and follows a young woman who invites three of her mother’s exes to her wedding, hoping that one of them is her father. Her hardworking single mom is surprised to see her former lovers…and things only get more complicated from there. This megahit with songs like “Dancing Queen” and “Super Trouper” is credited with the surge in popularity of jukebox musicals – it first played on Broadway in 2001 and ran for almost 14 years. It has since played all over the world, and now it’s back at the Winter Garden Theatre!

Art

Art, written by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton, and directed by Scott Ellis, stars Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris. This comedy is all about art, friendship, value, and taste and has previously played on Broadway and the West End. Now it’s back in a starry production that is sure to draw in crowds. This play is on the shorter side with no intermission, making it the perfect choice to pair with dinner. Make a night of it!

Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for the Ride

Jeff Ross: Take a Banana for the Ride, written by and starring Jeff Ross, plays at the Nederlander Theatre. Jeff Ross is best known for being “The Roastmaster General.” You may have seen him on Comedy Central Roasts or the New York Friars Club. Now he makes his Broadway debut! He covers 30 years in just 90 minutes in this hilarious and surprisingly heartwarming and cathartic autobiographical show.

Jean Smart in Call Me Izzy

Call Me Izzy

Call Me Izzy, written by Jamie Wax and directed by Sarna Lapine, plays at Studio 54 and stars Jean Smart as a Louisiana woman struggling to get out of a dangerous situation. This one-woman show puts Smart back on stage for the first time since 2000, when she starred as Lorraine Sheldon in The Man Who Came to Dinner. TheaterMania said, “Smart delivers the kind of once-in-a-lifetime performance that lingers long after the play ends.” The show ends its limited run in August, but there’s still time to catch the tour de force in action.

Audra Gypsy

Gypsy

Gypsy stars Audra McDonald as Mama Rose in a story about the ultimate stage mom who will do anything to make her daughters successful. Running since November 2024, this production directed by George C. Wolfe ends its run August 17, 2025. Variety said, "the latest revival, shepherded by legendary director and playwright George C. Wolfe and starring Tony Award winner Audra McDonald, is an electric and truly unique production that will undoubtedly become a crowning jewel in the canon of 'Gypsy.'" Don't miss your chance to see this musical theater superstar on stage!

John Proctor is the Villain at the Booth Theatre

John Proctor is the Villain

John Proctor is the Villain was nominated for seven Tony Award including the award for Best Play. Written by Kimberly Belflower and directed by Danya Taymor, the play began performances in March 2025 and was originally set to close in June but has been extended multiple times after its positive reviews and word of mouth. This comedy about a group of high schoolers reading The Crucible while dealing with their own problems closer to home is finally closing at the end of August, so get tickets while you can! This heralded show has won two Drama Desk Awards, three Dorian Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards, and has been nominated for many more. Variety said, “‘John Proctor Is the Villain’ is the best play of the season, but even more significantly, it is a feminist masterpiece sure to become one of the defining works of art from and about the #MeToo era.”

Purpose

Purpose

Purpose, written by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and directed by Phylicia Rashad, won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Featured Actress in a Play (Kara Young). After being extended multiple times at the Helen Hayes Theatre, the show is closing at the end of this month. The play follows the Jasper family, an African American family in Chicago who must reflect on their history, legacy, and identity after one son brings an uninvited guest. Variety called it, “A breathtaking production that beautifully blends drama and comedy, it is a searing tale that unveils the disconnect between how people see themselves and who they truly are.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child: Winner of the Tony Award for Best Play in 2018, this magical play has been delighting audiences for years and shows no signs of slowing down. Set after the events of the book series, the show follows Harry Potter’s son Albus and Draco Malfoy’s son Scorpius when they attend Hogwarts together.

Oh, Mary!: An alcoholic Mary Todd Lincoln dreams of being a cabaret star but is stifled by her husband, Abe. This hilarious comedy started off-Broadway and has turned into one of the biggest hits of the season. See what everyone is talking about!
