Musical and Play Pro-Shots

Diana the Musical

This new musical about the life of Princess Diana – from her courtship with Prince Charles, the birth of their children Prince William and Prince Harry to harassment from the media and Diana’s charitable contributions, this musical full of personal information about the Princess was filmed on stage in 2020 before its Broadway opening. Written by Joe DiPietro and David Bryan and directed by Christopher Ashley, it features Jenna de Waal as Princess Diana, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth.

John Leguizamo’s Latin History for Morons

John Leguizamo stars in this one-man Broadway show. He finds humor and heartbreak as he traces 3,000 years of Latin history in an effort to help his bullied son. The Chicago Sun-Times called Leguizamo “a juggernaut” and the production “flashy and fun and bright enough to illuminate history that’s all too often ignored.”

Oh, Hello

John Mulaney and Nick Kroll star as two geriatric Upper West Siders who share a love of tuna and welcome a surprise guest every show in this Broadway show that The New York Times called “stupendously entertaining.”

Shrek the Musical

Based on the 2001 animated film, Shrek The Musical ran for over a year on Broadway before being produced on the West End, Australia, and multiple US and international tours. The musical stars Brian d’Arcy James as Shrek, Sutton Foster as Princess Fiona, Daniel Breaker as Donkey, and Christopher Sieber as Lord Farquaad. The Guardian called it “genuinely theatrical” and “generous spirited.”

Springsteen on Broadway

Bruce Springsteen shares personal stories from his life and acoustic versions of some of his hit songs in this intimate one-man Broadway show. Jon Bon Jovi tweeted “the Boss is also the king of The Great White Way.”

Musical Movie Adaptations

13: The Musical

Based on the Broadway musical of the same name with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn, this adaptation stars Debra Messing, Josh Peck, Peter Hermann, Rhea Perlman, and Eli Golden. The musical follows Evan Goldman after he moves from New York to small-town Indiana after his parents’ divorce. In a bid to make friends, he resolves to throw the best Bar Mitzvah ever. Variety said, “The songs, by Jason Robert Brown, have an irresistible “Rent” Jr. effervescence, with a hip-hop flow to several of them, and they reel you in. These kids can sing and really dance.”

This adaptation of the Broadway hit follows teenager Tracy Turnblad as she lands a spot on a popular dance tv show and rallies against racial segregation and sizeism in Baltimore in the 1960s. It stars Nikki Blonsky, John Travolta, Christopher Walken, Queen Latifah, Zac Efron, Brittany Snow, Elijah Kelly, Jerry Stiller, Amanda Bynes and James Marsden. The New York Times said, “the overall mood of "Hairspray" is so joyful, so full of unforced enthusiasm, that only the most ferocious cynic could resist it.”

Les Misérables

Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway, Russell Crowe, Eddie Redmayne, Amanda Seyfried, Aaron Tveit, Sacha Baron Cohen, and Helen Bonham Carter star in this adaption of the Tony Award Best Musical winner about French peasant Jean Valjean and his journey to redemption. The Guardian called it “awe-inspiring.”

Matilda the Musical

Based on the beloved book by Roald Dahl, Matilda the Musical began its life in Stratford before moving in 2011 to the West End, where it is still playing. It ran for almost four years on Broadway beginning in 2013, and now the musical hits Netflix in a film adaptation that The Washington Post says “dances exuberantly onto the screen and into your heart.”  With music and lyrics by Tim Minchin, screenplay by Dennis Kelly, and direction by Matthew Warchus, this musical stars Emma Thompson, Alisha Weir, Lashana Lynch, Andrea Riseborough, Stephen Graham, and Sindhi Bee and is sure to be hit with the whole family.

The Prom

This movie adaption of the Broadway musical follows a group of Broadway stars as they head to a small town in Indiana to support a teen who wants to go to the Prom with her girlfriend. Starring Ariana DeBose, Jo Ellen Pellman, Meryl Streep, James Corden, Nicole Kidman, Andrew Rannells, Kerry Washington and Keegan-Michael Key, The New York Times called the musical “a joyful hoot” that “makes you believe in musical comedy again.”

Tick Tick…BOOM!

This Off-Broadway musical by Jonathan Larson – who also wrote the book, music, and lyrics to the musical Rent – is adapted for the screen by Steven Levinson and Lin Manuel Miranda in his feature film directing debut. It stars Andrew Garfield as Jonathan Larson, Vanessa Hudgens and Karessa, Alexandra Shipp as Susan, Robin de Jesus as Michael, Joshua Henry as Roger, and Bradley Whitford as Stephen Sondheim. Entertainment Weekly said, “Jonathan Larson’s story shines in a musical that sings from the heart.”
