Theater History
The Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre, originally named the Royale, was built in 1927 by the Chanin Brothers along with the nearby Majestic Theatre and the John Golden Theatre (originally called Theatre Masque). All three theaters are now run by the Shuberts, who renamed the theatre Bernard B. Jacobs after the president of the Shubert Organization. Recent productions include Parade, Company, The Color Purple, Once, and The Mountaintop.
