About Damn Yankees
Damn Yankees returns to Broadway in a major revival at the Marquis Theatre, beginning previews March 24, 2027, and opening April 20. The classic musical follows Joe Boyd, an ordinary baseball fanatic who makes a dangerous bargain with the devilish Applegate: in exchange for his soul, Joe can become the young athlete who might carry his struggling team to glory. This new staging moves the setting to the early 2000s and follows Joe's devotion to the Baltimore Orioles, refreshing the baseball story while retaining the musical's famous score.
Neil Patrick Harris stars as Applegate, Julianne Hough plays Lola, and Austin Scott plays Young Joe. Sergio Trujillo directs and choreographs. The original music and lyrics are by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross, with a book by George Abbott and Douglass Wallop. The updated adaptation is by Will Power and Doug Wright, with additional lyrics by Lynn Ahrens. Songs from the original score include Heart, Whatever Lola Wants (Lola Gets), and Two Lost Souls. The original 1955 Broadway production won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The official ticket seller recommends ages 10 and up and lists a running time of two hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission. A closing date has not been announced. Neil Patrick Harris is not scheduled for Sunday matinee performances from August 8 through September 26, 2027.
